Dutchie Kiosk (standard) setup and operation

The Dutchie Kiosk allows in-store customers to browse your menu, build a cart, and submit their order on a touchscreen device.

Things to know

  • This article is for the standard Kiosk, which is included in all Dutchie E-Commerce packages. We also offer Kiosk Pro as an optional add-on with additional functionality. Learn more about Kiosk Pro.
  • Kiosk devices and networks should meet these minimum requirements:
    • Memory: 3GB RAM
    • Processor/CPU: 2.2Ghz x 4 cores
    • Network: 200mbps down
    • Recommended Browser: Chrome
  • You’ll need Store Settings permissions to manage Dutchie Kiosk settings.

How it works

  1. Customers use the Dutchie Kiosk in-store to create and submit their orders for ASAP fulfillment.
  2. A KIOSK receipt prints with a timestamp that says ASAP.
  3. The orders appear in the Orders Tab and Terminal with a yellow Kiosk icon in the Current Orders queue.

  4. Once the order is ready, an employee clicks Ready for Pickup, and the customer pays for the order.

Set up Dutchie Kiosk

  1. In Dutchie E-Commerce Admin, go to Settings > Ordering > Kiosk.
  2. Enable Kiosk Mode.
  3. Copy the Kiosk URL to use on your Dutchie Kiosk device. Add ?viewOnlyMode=true to the end of the URL if you don't want to accept orders from the Kiosk and only allow customers to browse your menu from the Kiosk.
  4. Choose whether to enable Session Timeout

This automatically shows an "Are you still there" message after your specified Inactivity timeout window.

If a shopper doesn't tap Continue Shopping within the specified window, their cart is automatically emptied and the Kiosk goes back to a screen showing your logo until another shopper starts a session.

Kiosk Options

In the Kiosk Options section, check the boxes for any of the following:

  • Full Name Only: When checked, customers will see a single Full Name field. When unchecked, customers will see separate fields for First Name and Last Name.
    • Note that this option may interfere with customer name matching logic if the full name entered in the Kiosk is not an exact match to the customer name in Dutchie POS. This can also prevent multiple orders from the same customer from automatically combining if you've enabled the roll up preorders setting in Dutchie POS.
  • Hide Phone Field: Phone numbers will show as “Unknown” on the admin order page.
  • Phone Required: Require customers to enter a phone number so they'll receive order notification texts and your staff can contact them via the Messaging feature.
  • Hide Email Field: Email is not required, but this option will hide the email field.
  • Show Notes Field: Allows consumers to type notes. Depending on the dispensary’s operations, sometimes budtenders will enter the information on the Kiosk and will use the notes field to enter in-store specific operational items such as a budtender-specific code or number for tracking purposes.
  • Show Birthdate Field: Birthdate is not required, but this option will show a birthdate field.
  • Allow Anonymous Checkout: Allows customers to select an Anonymous Checkout option, which removes the name and phone number fields that are shown by default and allows the customer to submit their order without providing any personal information. If you enable this option, we recommend also disabling the Require Valid Driver's License setting in Dutchie POS under Settings Location to ensure anonymous kiosk orders can be processed in Dutchie POS without errors.
  • Enable Directed Orders: This is found in your Kiosk Options and can be used if you have multiple Terminals, allowing you to specify which terminal the Kiosk orders will go to. The eligible Terminals will then show up as options for the Pickup At field in the Kiosk checkout modal.

View and print a Kiosk order on the Order Terminal

To print and view kiosk orders on a Terminal, the Terminal must be configured to show Kiosk orders.

  1. Adjust the Terminal Order Source by clicking the small gear-shaped Settings icon in the upper right-hand corner of the Dutchie app on your Terminal.
  2. After clicking the icon, click Connected To.
  3. Choose from Pickup, Delivery, and/or Kiosk orders.

Pick tickets printed from the Order Terminal show the products in the order they were added to the cart by the customer. If you instead print pick tickets from Dutchie POS, however, you can customize how products appear on pick tickets.

Adjust quantity thresholds for Kiosk orders

In-store thresholds may differ from online ordering thresholds. You’ll want to adjust these for Kiosk orders.

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations.
  2. Scroll through the cards and choose your POS.
  3. Scroll to Quantity Thresholds.
  4. Click Edit, and make any necessary adjustments.
  5. Click Save.

Keep your Kiosks secure

Once you’ve set up your Dutchie Kiosks, you’ll want to keep your devices secure and limit browsing to your in-store menu. You should lock down the Kiosk so that customers cannot navigate to other sites.

  1. Hide all other apps on the device.
  2. Adjust the security settings on the browser app to only allow browsing dutchie.com.
  3. Hide the search bar on the internet browser.
