Dutchie Kiosk Pro setup and customer experience

Dutchie Kiosk Pro allows in-store customers to sign in to their loyalty account, browse your menu, build a cart, submit their order, and even complete payment via Pay by Bank, improving the consumer experience, maximizing throughput at peak hours, and helping to increase average order values.

Things to know

  • Kiosk Pro is an optional add-on with additional functionality not available with the standard Kiosk. Contact your customer success manager or schedule a demo to learn more.
  • Kiosk Pro runs on iOS, Android, or Windows. For best performance, devices should have at least 4GB RAM.
  • Chrome is the recommended browser for all Dutchie Kiosks.
  • You’ll need Store Settings permissions to manage Dutchie Kiosk settings.

Kiosk Pro key features

Kiosk Pro offers all the same functionality of the standard Kiosk, plus:

Personalized login and shopping experience

Customers can scan a QR code or enter their phone number to log in with their Dutchie account, or shop as a guest and check out anonymously (if anonymous checkout is enabled).

Returning customers see previously purchased items and suggested products based on their individual shopping history.

Loyalty program integration

The kiosk greets customers by name and shows their loyalty point balance and eligible promotions, or invites them to opt into your loyalty program if they haven’t already.

Kiosk Pro supports Dutchie, Alpine IQ, and Springbig loyalty programs.

Redesigned interface for faster browsing

Improved product discovery with a new kiosk-optimized layout, better search functionality, and a persistent information bar that displays cart items, loyalty status, and a checkout shortcut.

Responsive design supports both landscape and portrait orientation.

Payments

Customers enrolled with Pay by Bank can complete their purchase entirely on the kiosk, or they can choose to pay at the counter when their order is ready.

Budtender attribution in Dutchie POS

If your budtenders use the Kiosk to help customers place orders and a different staff member acts as the cashier, a new feature in Dutchie POS allows you to select who helped the customer so you can better track performance, calculate commissions, and understand which budtenders drive higher value orders.

Review the following options and click Publish when you're done.

Kiosk Instructions

Enter optional Kiosk Instructions that should be shown to customers when they place an order, such as “Please proceed to the counter and we’ll call your name when your order is ready.”

Session Timeout

Choose whether to enable Session Timeout.

This shows an "Are you still there" message after your specified Inactivity timeout window

If the customer doesn't tap Keep Shopping within the specified window, they are automatically logged out, their cart is cleared, and the Kiosk returns to the beginning screen for another customer.

Kiosk Options

In the Kiosk Options section, check the boxes for any of the following:

  • Full Name Only: When checked, customers will see a single Full Name field. When unchecked, customers will see separate fields for First Name and Last Name.
    • Note that this option may interfere with customer name matching logic if the full name entered in the Kiosk is not an exact match to the customer name in Dutchie POS. This can also prevent multiple orders from the same customer from automatically combining if you've enabled the roll up preorders setting in Dutchie POS.
  • Hide Phone Field: Phone numbers will show as “Unknown” on the admin order page.
  • Phone Required: Require customers to enter a phone number so they'll receive order notification texts and your staff can contact them via the Messaging feature.
  • Hide Email Field: Email is not required, but this option will hide the email field.
  • Show Notes Field: Allows consumers to type notes. Depending on the dispensary’s operations, sometimes budtenders will enter the information on the Kiosk and will use the notes field to enter in-store specific operational items such as a budtender-specific code or number for tracking purposes.
  • Show Birthdate Field: Birthdate is not required, but this option will show a birthdate field.
  • Allow Anonymous Checkout: Allows customers to select an Anonymous Checkout option, which removes the name and phone number fields that are shown by default and allows the customer to submit their order without providing any personal information. If you enable this option, we recommend also disabling the Require Valid Driver's License setting in Dutchie POS under Settings Location to ensure anonymous kiosk orders can be processed in Dutchie POS without errors.
  • Enable Directed Orders: This is found in your Kiosk Options and can be used if you have multiple Terminals, allowing you to specify which terminal the Kiosk orders will go to. The eligible Terminals will then show up as options for the Pickup At field in the Kiosk checkout modal.

Payment Types

Select the Payment Types that customers can choose when placing a Kiosk order.

Customer experience

When not in use, the Kiosk displays your logo and an “Order & pay here” message. Customers are encouraged to log into their Dutchie account so they can earn points and check out faster, but can also choose to order as a guest.

Step-by-step walkthrough

Customers select whether they want to make a Recreational or Medical order. Medical purchases require a valid medical card. This will determine whether they see recreational or medical pricing and menu items.

Customers can then log in to their Dutchie account by scanning the QR code with their mobile device and following the login prompts on their device, or by entering the phone number associated with their Dutchie account. They can also shop as a guest without logging in.

Guests who did not log in are prompted to enter their information.

  • Displayed and required fields will vary depending on your Kiosk Options.
  • If you checked Allow Anonymous Checkout in your Kiosk Options, guests will also have the option to select Anonymous Checkout and submit their order without entering any personal information.

Logged-in customers only need to select whether they want to submit a Recreational or Medical order (if your dispensary offers both). Medical cards should be verified by a staff member before handing the customer their order.

Customers are then asked how they want to pay:

Pay at counter and select a payment type:

Or, if you offer Pay by Bank, they can choose Pay now and scan a QR code to complete payment on their mobile device with Pay by Bank.

Employee experience

Once a Kiosk order is submitted, it appears in your Orders menu and on the Order Terminal (if configured) with a KIOSK badge and ASAP for the pickup time.

Employees then prepare the order according to your standard operating procedure for in-store orders.

In Dutchie POS, an optional budtender attribution feature allows cashiers to note which budtender helped the customer place their kiosk order (if someone other than the cashier).

Users must have the Login to POS permission in Dutchie POS to appear in the dropdown.

View and print a Kiosk order on the Order Terminal

To print and view kiosk orders on a Terminal, the Terminal must be configured to show Kiosk orders.

  1. Adjust the Terminal Order Source by clicking the small gear-shaped Settings icon in the upper right-hand corner of the Dutchie app on your Terminal.
  2. After clicking the icon, click Connected To.
  3. Choose from Pickup, Delivery, and/or Kiosk orders.

Pick tickets printed from the Order Terminal show the products in the order they were added to the cart by the customer. If you instead print pick tickets from Dutchie POS, however, you can customize how products appear on pick tickets.

Adjust quantity thresholds for Kiosk orders

In-store thresholds may differ from online ordering thresholds. You’ll want to adjust these for Kiosk orders.

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations.
  2. Scroll through the cards and choose your POS.
  3. Scroll to Quantity Thresholds.
  4. Click Edit, and make any necessary adjustments.
  5. Click Save.

Keep your Kiosks secure

Once you’ve set up your Dutchie Kiosks, you’ll want to keep your devices secure and limit browsing to your in-store menu. You should lock down the Kiosk so that customers cannot navigate to other sites.

  1. Hide all other apps on the device.
  2. Adjust the security settings on the browser app to only allow browsing dutchie.com.
  3. Hide the search bar on the internet browser.
