In inventory management, tags make it possible to categorize products and inventory beyond general product categories.
For example, you could add a vegan tag to products or packages to make it easier to find all vegan products. You can also use multiple tags on one product to get specific about types of inventory. For instance, you might add a vegan tag and an edible tag to products, so you can find vegan edibles in your inventory.
Things to know
- The following user permissions control access to this feature:
- Create Tags
- Edit Tags
- Delete Tags
- Edit Product Tags (add or remove tags on products in the Catalog)
- Edit Package Tags (add or remove tags on packages in Inventory)
- Tags must be manually applied to products and packages. Smart tags are automatically applied to or removed from packages according to customizable criteria. Learn more about smart tags.
Create, edit, or delete tags
To manage tags:
- Go to Products > Tags.
- Select the Tags tab.
- Click Add tag to create a new tag.
- Click an existing tag to change its name.
- Click the ellipsis (...) next to a tag to delete it. Deleting a tag will remove it from all products and packages.
Add tags to products and packages
From the Products or Inventory pages, select any product or package and find the Tags dropdown on its detail page.
Select from the list of tags. You can also Select all or Select none to clear all selected tags.
If you add or remove tags on an existing product, and that product is currently in customer carts, you may need to remove and re-add the product for the changes to be reflected in the Register. Whenever possible, we recommend making changes to existing products outside of business hours.
Bulk edit tags
- Go to Products > Inventory.
- Select the packages you want to edit tags for from the inventory table.
- Click the Bulk actions dropdown and select Edit tags.
- Select a tag from the dropdown.
- Click Update.
How to use tags
Once you've tagged products and inventory, you can:
- Filter and sort your Products or Inventory lists based on tags.
- Create discounts that apply only to products or packages with certain tags.
- Create collections or custom categories based on tags in Dutchie E-Commerce.
- Create staging rooms, inventory kits, and packing lists for Dynamic Delivery operations.
